My pet project, the Great Gatsby sketchbook continues to evolve. Reading Fitzgerald's novel again and executing these drawings has definitely prompted me to explore more classic American literature.

The majority of the drama in the novel takes place between Gatsby's estate on Long Island Sound and the Plaza Hotel in New York city.

Inspired by the ongoing movie news, I have recently reread the classic novel

by F. Scott Fitzgerald and started a few drawings while listening to an audio version (sketching while listening to any kind of radio drama can be a wonderful experience).  I have cropped the frames to both wide screen and cinematic proportions. I will continue to post as I proceed.

Sergeant. 'Gibby'

A distinguished Police Sergeant of 53 Division in Toronto was the subject of this colour caricature presented to him recently at a live event in his honor. ~This original artwork was actually photographed on the kitchen table with a Samsung Omnia cell phone camera. ~ I usually work up a progression of rough sketches with my client until we're satisfied with the content and composition; then pencil, ink and paint on 140 lb. cold press (Arches or Bockingford) watercolor paper. Here is another example from my main site.

The Cliffside Hearth is a Toronto bakery specializing in handmade naturally leavened breads.  We are developing some print and 'outdoor' for their new retail location. I will post again as this design evolves.

Canada Post design submission

I have submitted an image to the Canada Post Mental Health Stamp Design Competition. Canada Post has made mental health issues and awareness it's cause of choice since 2008.  For the first time in its history, Canada Post has asked Canadians to submit and vote on a design that will become a Canadian postage stamp. Grenville Pinto

Grenville Pinto is an extraordinarily talented Toronto musician and performance artist.  He plays violin professionally for special events and live concerts and although classically trained, excels  in many musical genres including pop, R&B and even rock.  This whimsical portrait was commissioned by Grenville for an upcoming project. It was created in Photoshop with the Bamboo Pen & Touch.

This is an editorial sample that was inspired by a very strange dream.  It was drawn with pencil, black ballpoint pens and watercolors.

Between It Might Get Loud, Them Crooked Vultures and the Band of Joy the former members of Led Zeppelin maintained quite the 'presence' in 2010 (apparently, John Bonham used to wear the Clockwork Orange attire as a political statement during his tax exile days).  ~ This is a very rough initial sketch for a poster I'm working on.

A background 'matte-painting' for a short film in production. This was composed of eleven picture files. The foreground 'live action' will be filmed with actors on a green screen set. I'll be doing more of these.

Believe it or not, I did not pressure my client into this Marvel theme for her boyfriend's caricature...  this was her actual request.
