Pamela Lillian Isley was an exceptionally gifted botanical biochemistry student studying in Seattle, WA. She also had a terrible weakness for mad scientists. During one particularly nasty experiment, conducted by a Dr. Jason Woodrue, she was injected with an experimental mixture of plant based poisons.  Although she survived the ordeal, she was rendered mentally unstable and delusional and transformed into a new kind of hybrid species, more plant than human.  She fled Seattle for Gotham city where, befriended by the psychopathic Harley Quinn, and tormenting the city as an eco-terrorist, her love/hate relationship with Batman began. Poison Ivy was created by DC Comics editor, Robert Kanigher and artist, Sheldon Moldoff. She first appeared in Batman #181 in June 1966. I have added Poison Ivy to my deviantART Gallery.
